The Graying of My Hair, 16″, oil on canvas

We are connected to both the tides and the flames. Water, fire, sun and moon – these are powerful symbols of energy and seasons. This piece centers a woman – a cat – in the center of balance. She is as comfortable in the ocean as amid the heat. Her hair becomes both wave and fiery tendril.

She plays an electric guitar with an aggressive flourish, the way an excited teenager might. Perhaps you can hear the sound? This piece features thick layers of paint in places, a build up of a metallic acrylic underpainting, and then lush oil brushwork on top. The sides are also painted.
