Key of Bee, 9×11, mixed media
Nature meets music theory, especially if you are a guitarist. This piece portrays bumblebees of different colors, sizes, and antennae to convey the seven notes of the B Major scale. They are found on corresponding strings of the guitar from the tab perspective, the perspective a guitarist would see if they were holding the instrument themselves. The key of B has five sharps, thus five bees have sharp notes in their antennae. Major chord bees are in gold, minor in silver, and diminished in copper.
This piece is made mostly from upcycled materials. Used framing bars, a strip of canvas from an old painting, and spent guitar strings compose the base. The bees are crafted from plastic container lids, guitar strings, velcro, glue and acrylic paint. The poppies are made from old extension cord wire, green plastic berry containers (for the inside pistils), and paper mache.
This is a special and truly one of a kind piece in the concept, handcrafting, upcycling, and love for music and bumbling!
