Christine White, Art - Paint Harmonic (Portrait)

I am a Southern California-based artist working in paint for the past 15 years. I’ve lived all over the United States and appreciate what makes different regions unique and special. My interest in conveying a sense of place is imbued in my work, and supported by a professional background and Masters in geography.

My art style is representational, and blends the worlds of fine art and imagination. I tend to portray surreal stories of places, plants, and creatures. Working primarily in oil, I experiment with the surfaces I paint on. This has resulted in reverse paintings on glass, mirrors, masks, and instrument decor in addition to traditional paintings. Lately, I’ve been creating art using materials we normally discard: plastic, fabric scraps, old wiring. The challenge is to create work that uses these materials without leading with their usage, e.g., beautiful art that just happens to be made out of trash. This is one of the ways I stand with nature and say “enough” to the overwhelming consumption of our day.

Philosophy, i.e., Paint Harmonic: I am a hobby musician and love the sound of a harmonic note. Its like a little star, punctuating music at just the right time. This is how I feel when an idea comes to mind that I want to paint or build. And this star flash is what I hope a viewer feels when they connect to my work. I want it to be like a little harmonic note, a spark, in paint.
